Whole-Hand Haptics for Mid-air Buttons

Abstract Mid-air buttons are currently slow and error-prone. One reason is that their haptic feedback attempts at replicating physical button instead of being designed specifically for interaction in mid air. We present an approach to haptics mid-air extends the beyond fingertip. Our inspired by recent findings show how skin vibrations from fingertip presses extend whole hand. apply across hand simulate pull-up effect triggers users withdraw finger upon activation. conduct a user study with two tasks evaluate whole-hand compare it prior work. results reduces overall press duration allows more successful activations compared localized feedback. discuss reasons behind improved performance further steps improve presses.
